As you may have heard, the Sick Town Derby Dames have been on a hiatus as we’ve made repairs and improvements to our home, the historic Lake Park Roller Rink just north of Corvallis. After almost two years of weekend work parties and various inspections, we’ve finally been approved to start skating in our home once again!
We began practicing this week, and we’ve already had 30 skaters return to strap on their wheels! We couldn’t be happier with this level of response. With so many of us having been off skates for so long, we know we have a long road ahead of us. But seeing so many smiling, sweaty faces made our hearts swell!
As we get our skates back under us, we’ll be reaching out to the community for more interested skaters. We plan to start our next Boot Camp session within the next 4-6 weeks. Boot Camps run 6 or 7 weeks, and start with the very basics; these are non-contact sessions, and skaters learn all the skills needed to move on to full contact derby. For more information on Boot Camps, shoot an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org!
We want to thank everyone who helped and supported us along the way – our gratitude is endless! It was a long road, with quite a few speed bumps, but we’re finally home, and we are looking forward to our next chapter!
